Day 5 - Sanbonani Resort and Chill

| They kind of hate each other right now, so I'm posting this photo lol |
There isn't much to report on; the kids and I slept in and we enjoyed the amenities of the resort today.
We have our own kitchenette, so we prepare the majority of our food from supplies we buy at the grocery store located just 3 miles down the road. (we can never seem to remember everything though)
We eat sandwiches so often that Eve is sick of them. She wants to eat in the resort's restaurant today, so I promise her lunch by the pool.
So at 11am, we lazily meander up to the main reception area, discussing our game plan: order lunch, eat, and swim. The pool is near reception, along with other activities like billiards and putt putt golf. Some of us skipped a large breakfast with the thought of eating an early lunch. As we approach the restaurant, we see the doors are closed, lights are off.
"It's okay," I comfort the two kids, "they said something about serving lunch on the terrace."
The pool is more like 4 conjoined pools. One large olympic-sized pool with an infiniti edge connects to two square pools on each of its sides; the infiniti edge spills downward across 3 dozen tile steps to a fourth shallow pool below. This provides ample space for sure. The "terrace" where lunch has the potential to be served could be several areas along the back side of this reception building (none of which seem busy or interested in serving lunch).
I approach the front desk receptionist, "I see hours for breakfast and dinner on the restaurant sign, but no lunch?"
It is an observation in the form of a question. She says we can visit the resort store for sandwich options (dear god another sandwich) or order a pizza. Limited choices for sure. Pizza isn't on my radar right now.
The kids and I browse the resort mini market which offers plenty of local candy and soda varieties, but I don't see any sandwiches in the cooler.
"Do you have any sandwiches?" I ask the clerk behind the register.
She points to the edge of her register stand where five varieties of sandwich sit: simple cheese and meat, egg salad (I assume), a chicken wrap, and two other options I can't quite discern.
Pizza it is.
We order it for delivery from the front desk phone -- a large chicken bbq. Large is definitely a subjective term, but the kids say it tastes better than our first pizza experience upon arrival in Hazyview.
Eve and Landon, competitive by nature (they don't get that from me) decide we will all play putt putt golf. A multilevel 18 hole mini golf course sits at the edge of the infiniti pool area. We reluctantly play all the holes. Landon has the least number of strokes. I get the only "hole in one." Eve gives up after about the 6th hole and half plays/half complains.
I threaten both kids that the next time they bicker/fight/degrade each other, we are leaving. A pizza box is soon tossed in jest and a bickering match ensues. And that's what happens; instead of more pool time, we leave. They have two hours of no tv, no entertaining devices -- and I take a nap and a bath.
I wake to two happy kids making muffin tops out of muffin mix in the kitchen. I think I will punish them more often.
Cathy makes chicken tetrazinni and broccoli for dinner. I eat spinach, plain chicken, avocado, and other boring alternatives.
Tomorrow is Elephant School at the Elephant Sanctuary in Hazyview.
(hazyview.elephantsanctuary.co.za)
We will be present at the first session of Elephant Introduction at 8am where we will meet Kasper and Kitso. Here we are able to touch, feed, interact, and walk -- trunk in hand with these 2 sweet giants. I expect there will be some very memorable moments to share.
Afterwards, we hike Blyde River Canyon, one of the largest canyons on Earth. Based on our energy level, we may hike 1 to 4 hours.
It's an adventure here for sure.
